Ok, so I was blown away by the Miss Representation video we watched in class this week. It totally ruined movies for me.
My husband watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom while I was grading this week (he is so sweet to watch really low quality movies when I can't watch with him so I won't miss anything), and since our apartment is small and I am easily distracted, I watched over my shoulder. This movie had everything I hate to watch in it; torture, abused children, Satan worshiping, human sacrifice, the most nerdy and gross lead-up-to-sex conversation ever... you name it. And the woman was portrayed horribly! The character was a rich ditsy dancer who had never spent time outdoors, and who was made to look unintelligent, incapable, weak, high-maintenance, snobby, disrespectful, and basically a sex toy for the men in the movie. It was ridiculous! I grew up thinking Indiana Jones was a fun character, but I did not enjoy watching him on the screen beating people up, dragging a little boy into dangerous situations, and throwing around a woman. Why do we show characters like this to our kids and portray them as heroes? What is there that is safe to show our kids? 🤷

It was a little depressing to learn of these realities and definitely eye opening... Also Indiana Jones, wow that is so sad.
